[ARCHIVED] Carmichael Farms to Expand Operations

Scotland County,  NC – Scotland County Board of Commissioners Chairman, Bob Davis announced today that Carmichael Farms, LLC plans to invest in Scotland County by adding 26.5 million dollars of new investment while also creating 50 jobs.  Carmichael Farms will expand their farming operations to include manufacturing and packing of agricultural products.

“Nothing gives me more joy than to see a local business investing back into our community. Carmichael Farms continues to build upon their family business and I’m proud of their accomplishments. said Chairman Bob Davis.  “The number one goal is to help create good paying jobs and the County Commissioners will continue to assist any company that wishes to create jobs in Scotland County.  It only seemed appropriate to offer incentives to the first company to locate in the incubator park.”  The Scotland County Commissioners authorized an incentive package for Carmichael farms in the form of tax grants valued at over $500,000 for five years.  Carmichael Farms must meet job creation and investment threshold as well as paying their property taxes to be eligible for the incentive grants.

Carol McCall, Chair of the Scotland County Economic Development Corporation stated, “This is a true testimony that agricultural and manufacturing can coexist within one company.   We thank Eddie, David and Carmichael Farms LLC, for believing in their community and becoming the first tenant in our Incubator Park.”

“On behalf of the citizens of Laurinburg and City Council, we send our sincere congratulations to Economic Developer Mark Ward and the Scotland County EDC, stated Matthew Block, MD Mayor of the City of Laurinburg. “We also extend a very warm welcome to Carmichael Farms, we thank them for their decision to invest in Laurinburg and we look forward to a close working relationship in the future for the benefit of their company and our city.”

“Having grown up in Scotland County, David and I are thankful for The City of Laurinburg, Scotland County and Scotland County Economic Development Corporation for seeing value in a local company such as ours. Our family has farmed in Scotland for over 200 years and for us to expand our operations in our community gives us great satisfaction”, stated Eddie Carmichael. “Once we viewed the building in SCEDC’s Incubator Park we knew this was the right place. There is room for future expansions and SCEDC’s eagerness to assist made us feel welcome. We look forward to hiring locals and helping Scotland County's economy grow. “

“Thankful! No other word describes how I feel when I get to assist a company to locate in my home town.   David and Eddie could have easily chosen Robeson County for this new venture, but they allowed me an opportunity and I’m thankful.  I must admit that if SCEDC didn’t take a proactive approach and begin construction on the Incubator Park last year; this project would have never landed in Laurinburg. Having a new building ready to move in was definitely a plus” stated Mark Ward, Director of Economic Development and President of the Scotland County Economic Development Corporation.  “I’d like to especially thank PCI for doing a great job on our building and the City of Laurinburg Electrical Department for accommodating our schedule.”
