[ARCHIVED] Scotland County Declares a State of Emergency

Laurinburg—Scotland County Board of Commissioners Chairman, Bob Davis, today signed a state of emergency declaration for Scotland County in response to the COVID-19 global pandemic.  The declaration became effective immediately and is based on the advice of Health Director Kristen Patterson and Emergency Services Director, Roylin Hammond.

This measure is purely precautionary as there are currently no cases of COVID-19 in Scotland County.  The number of cases of COVID-19 is at 40 in North Carolina and has topped 5,000 nationwide.  The Scotland County Health Department is in constant contact with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services concerning this ever changing situation.

In order to contain the spread of the virus, Scotland County residents are encouraged to wash your hands for at least 20 seconds with warm water and soap.  Residents are also encouraged to cough into your elbow and to stay home if you are sick.  In addition, please do not congregate in groups.  The elderly and individuals with underlying health conditions are especially encouraged to stay home.  For complete information about the coronavirus visit the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services at www.ncdhhs.gov/coronavirus or call 1-866-462-3821.
