Service's Goal Defined: It is the goal of Scotland County EMS
that anyone in our service area who falls victim to unexpected, sudden injury or
illness at any time will receive timely, state-of-the-art care through every
phase of the emergency incident. These phases of the emergency incident include
lay people's prevention and preparedness, occurrence of the problem, its
detection, notification of trained help, help rendered by bystanders, help given
by pre-hospital trained personnel, transport to the Scotland Memorial Hospital
emergency department and, if necessary, admission to that hospital or transfer
to a more sophisticated facility.

In order to meet the goal outlined above, the Service must work closely with
local, state, and federal officials, fire and rescue departments, other
ambulance providers, hospitals, and other agencies to foster a smoothly
functioning network. This network must be capable of responding instantly and
reliably around-the-clock with well-trained, well-equipped personnel linked as
needed through strong communications.
Principal Activities of the Service: To give every one of our 400
patients per month excellent care, Scotland County EMS dedicates much of its
energies and funds to three priorities:

Training
The continuous upgrading and maintenance of the training of its EMT's, Paramedics, as well as all levels of teaching the public such basic but
essential skills as CPR; and department presentations, the Service sees that all
its employees receive retraining and supplemental education each year.
Equipment
The Equipment procurement of the latest in EMS equipment,
including vehicles and Defibrillators (a
modern ambulance now costs some $90,000 - $120,000, while defibrillators cost
around 25,000).
Communications
Improvement of the EMS communications (our service is dispatched by Scotland
County EMS personnel in the EMS base, located at 1403 West Blvd., Laurinburg,
