VITAL RECORDS REQUIREMENTS
The Scotland County Register of Deeds Office requires that anyone wishing to obtain a certified copy of a Vital Record either in person or by mail must be at least 18 years of age and must provide a valid government issued picture ID to identify themselves.
State-issued I.D. card
All of the Above I.D. must be Valid
FEES - cash or money order/certified check
- Certified Copies are $10.00
- Uncertified copies are $0.25
REQUESTS MADE IN PERSON
You may visit the Register of Deeds office in person to obtain a copy during regular business hours. Remember in order to get a certified copy you must present a valid government issued picture ID as listed above.
REQUESTS VIA MAIL
To obtain a certified copy of a vital record by mail, please complete the application for Vital Record Form. Return the signed application along with a certified check or money order for $10.00, a self addressed stamped envelope, and a copy of your valid driver's license or valid state ID card or any of the above accepted valid ID's.

Online Vitals Application Request -IN ORDER TO REQUEST YOUR CERTIFICATE ONLINE YOU MUST BE ABLE TO UPLOAD OR FAX YOUR VALID PHOTO ID/DRIVER'S LICENSE TO PROCESS THE REQUEST.
This service is provided for customers who choose to apply for vital certificates electronically instead of through the mail. Applications will be processed during office hours; Monday through Friday 8:00 A. M. through 4:00 P.M. After processing your application, the vital certificate will be returned to you through regular mail delivery. Please note that this service is provided to speed up the application process but does not include express delivery of the certificate or uncertified copies. For the convenience of making an online request there is a processing fee in addition to the mandated $10.00 fee for a certified copy and $0.25 fee for an uncertified copy. BIRTH RECORDS OF ADOPTED PERSONS
Birth Certificates of individuals who were adopted are not available at the Scotland County Register of Deeds Office and are only on file at the NC State Office of Vital Records. Contact NC Vital Records for assistance with adoption records at (919) 733-3526.
