What Can Be Recycled

Scotland County operates 5 conveniently located recycling and solid waste collection centers. Each center features receptacles to accept a number of items.

Accepted Items


Agricultural Pesticide Containers

Farmers may discard triple rinsed agricultural pesticide containers at the Sneads Grove and Livingston Quarters Recycle Centers or Landfill. 


Aluminum & Steel Cans

Aluminum and steel cans are accepted as well as clean aluminum foil and pie plates.

Automobile Items

Automobile items such as car batteries, tires, used motor oil and used antifreeze are accepted.

Boxes

All corrugated packing boxes, shoe boxes, cereal and cracker boxes, tissue and toy boxes, paper towel tubes and paper egg cartons are accepted. If it came in cardboard, it can be recycled!

Electronics

Electronics including PCs, hard drives, laptops, computers, scanners, printers, copiers, cellphones, PDAs, video games, iPods, iPads, MP3s, LCD monitors, TVs, keyboards and mice, microwaves, stereos, cameras, telephones, rechargeable batteries, vacuums, fans, etc are accepted.

Glass

Food and beverage containers such as bottles and jars that are green, brown, and clear are accepted.

Household Hazardous Waste

Household Hazardous Waste such as used motor oil, transmission fluid or antifreeze, paints and solvents, residential pesticides and herbicides, furniture stripper and preservatives and swimming pool chemicals are accepted.

Mixed Paper

All paper products such as slick inserts, magazines, catalogues, newspaper inserts, junk mail, envelopes, computer paper, all paper bags, dog and cat food and livestock bags and office and school miscellaneous paper of all colors can be mixed together.

Newspaper

Newspaper must be recycled separately from all other paper products while the inserts can be recycled with mixed paper.

Plastics

Household Plastics number 1 through 7. All other plastic containers must be disposed of in compactor.

Swap Shop Items

Swap Shop Items such as clothes, small appliances, toys and furniture that can be used by other patrons are accepted.

White Goods

White Goods appliances such as washing machines, refrigerators, dish washers and dryers are accepted.

Yard Waste

Yard Waste such as limbs, leaves, and pine straw are accepted, however they must be less than 6-feet long or they will not be accepted.
